San Jorge is the most important community in the region, the leading one. They have telephone networks, a hospital, a police station and receive international tourism. Pumayoc, with neither electricity nor roads, is an Andean and rural community that preserves its culture’s oldest traditions, worshipping the land and the sun.

Both communities face off against each other at the local soccer tournament. The San Jorge players, who work for the local government, the hotel or the restaurant, have plenty of time to train. But the Pumayoc team, made up of peasants, may have to choose between harvesting their corn or playing the finals.

By speeding up the harvest and even working night shifts, the Pumayoc team manages to play the championship finals… in a field that’s three hours away, on the other side of the mountain range. And with some divine help from the Pachamama…

The camera follows the characters, accompanies them, lives and mingles in the crowds and intimacy, and is just another actor in the soccer matches.

The locations, the visits to towns and crop fields, the gravel soccer fields and the winding paths between mountain rocks strike an aesthetic contrast with the bright colors in the characters’ clothes.

The rhythm of the editing, the dialogues and internal development of scenes weaves a dynamic that rises above the bucolic landscapes into a seamless narrative, reaching the heart of the conflict and arriving at its resolution.
